Shelter Red Ale Gets Canned
Shelter Brewing Co’s Red Ale has made the journey out of the tap, into a can and to a nearby bottle shop.
The Red Ale has been a favourite over the bar since Shelter Brewing Co opened in Busselton in Western Australia’s South West in November 2020.
Head Brewer Jason Credaro said Shelter was giving the people what they want.
“The Red Ale has been hugely popular at the brewery since day one,” Credaro said.
“Red Ale isn’t the most common, or widespread style of beer, but it has a bit of a cult following at Shelter.
“With the change in the seasons and the colder weather coming on, we decided to can the Red Ale for take away from the brewery and also from local bottleshops.
“People who love red ale, really love red ale, so we knew it would get a good reception in the market.”
Shelter’s Red Ale is a throwback to a classic Irish red.
“It’s a traditional malt-driven red, so it brings on those fantastic flavours that make it the ultimate cold weather comforter,” Credaro said.
“It has notes of caramel, coffee and dried fruit, and while it remains dry and very drinkable, it has a hint of candy sweetness that makes it incredibly more-ish.
“At 5.5% ABV the Red Ale is one of Shelter’s heavier core range beers, but it remains very approachable.”
Credaro has a personal attraction to red ales himself.
“A red ale was one of the first beers I ever brewed as an all-grain homebrew, way back when I first started brewing,” he said.
“I’ve always loved the style and a Red Ale was always going to be part of Shelter’s core range.”
Shelter Red Ale is now available online and at bars and bottle shops across Perth and the South West.
