White Elephant Beach Café has reopened, and will stay open all year around now the construction of a new 80 square metre indoor area is complete.
The Margaret River beachside cafe, with its magnificent view over Gnarabup Bay, is open seven days per week for coffee, breakfast through until lunch, and now offers a place to sit inside if the weather isn’t perfect.
Margaret River Hospitality Group (MRHG) Managing Director Anthony Janssen said that the White Elephant Beach Café is popular with locals and visitors, as well as a popular wedding venue.
“The beach and the view are stunning, which is why many couples choose to have their wedding here. Now, with the new indoor area, the forecast for someone’s ‘big day’ isn’t so important. It gives brides and grooms peace of mind when weddings are booked through our sister business, Barefoot Beach Weddings,” Janssen said.
“Weddings aside, the White Elephant remains a casual beachside café that serves great coffee and good food.
“When it’s cold or windy outside, we’ll have the fire going inside – there’s no substitute for the sounds and smells of an open fire.
“Inside, the view won’t be compromised with the large glass bi-fold doors that can open right up to seamlessly integrate the alfresco and indoor areas.
MRHG Executive Chef Tony Howell said the new rolling menu would be flexible to take advantage of seasonal local produce.
“There’s a good mix of light healthy beachside dishes with some heartier options for those that have just come in from the surf,” Howell said.
“The lunch menu is exciting - the compressed watermelon salad with prawns and papaya salad is a favourite – the prawns are cooked in ocean water. In fact, we’ll be cooking more of our seafood and doing some brining using ocean water – it enhances the flavour of everything.”
Janssen said he’s not the only one who’s happy that the White Elephant will be open all year around, no longer closing for a winter hiatus.
“We’ve had so many of positive responses from Prevelly and Gnarabup locals who are thrilled that they can get a great coffee fix without the need to go into town. It just makes living here even better I reckon,” Janssen said.
The White Elephant Beach Café is open seven days from 7.30am until mid-afternoon and offers free wifi.
