It’s a good time anytime once again at Morries. Due to popular demand and after a short hiatus avoiding early mornings, Morries is again serving breakfast seven days a week [from 21 June 2017]. Best of all is the reintroduction of Angry Hour between 7.30am and 8.30am where takeaway coffee will cost just $3.
Breakfast isn’t the only new addition to Morries. It has a new business partner, long serving Manager Dave Astbury.
Astbury recently bought a 50 per cent stake in Morries from the Margaret River Hospitality Group (MRHG).
“It’s a big step to buy into the business, but it’s a business I love and believe in. I’ve worked at Morries for two years so I know the business intimately and importantly, I know what customers want. And they want breakfast, they want more classy jazz and live music and they want quality with good value for money,” the 28-year-old said.
“Importantly, the all-day breakfast burger which is what everyone’s kept asking for, will be back on the menu, permanently. Whether it’s 7.30am in the morning or 11pm at night, the go-to breakfast burger will be available. And we’re the only venue in town with a morning licence – yes, Bloody Marys for breakfast!”
Astbury said part of the evolving Morries offering is to have its own speciality house wine at a good price.
“We’re working with the talented wine makers at Juniper Estate on Project Morries, blending our own exclusive Morries house wine that will only be available to our customers.
“We’ll continue with our Jazz nights which has proven to be really popular, but they’re now free. I decided to remove the cover charge to make it more accessible to more people as it gives customers the option to call in for a drink or two or a quick meal without feeling obligated to stay for the entire performance.
“The Jazz Nights are great and customers love being able to do something different in town – the place has an electric vibe on Jazz Nights, it’s buzzing.
“We’re also one the only cocktail bar in town to be open late and serve food until late – we serve food up until 10 or 11pm,” Astbury said.
MRHG Managing Director Anthony Janssen said that Morries after dark would retain its focus as a cocktail bar and restaurant and continue to provide locals and visitors with a contemporary hospitality experience.
“Hospitality is an ever changing landscape. It’s important to listen to and enact on customer feedback while keeping things evolving and interesting. Our customers, especially the locals, tell us that they appreciate the extra effort we go to,” he said.
“I’m proud of the unique and fun venue we’ve created, which is largely due to the team on the floor.
“In charge of cocktails and drinks is ‘WA Barman of the Year’ Billy Phillips and Laura Heddle and at the helm of the kitchen is young gun chef Billy Taylor and Rosie Griffiths.
“It's great to be able to offer opportunities to our people beyond employment. We have a focus on growing our people and watching Dave take on ownership is a big positive for us all,” Janssen said.
