Perth, Western Australia: 21 October 2015, at precisely 4.29pm
Perth movie fans and car lovers gathered at the Perth Cultural Centre today at precisely 4.29pm, Wednesday 21st October, to celebrate what has come to be known as Back To The Future Day, at an event produced by Perth Speed Fest.
The future has arrived, that is today’s date - 21 October 2015 – the date that Doc Brown and Marty McFly time-travelled in a DeLorean in the iconic 80’s movie Back to the Future Part II.
Today’s groundbreaking date is being celebrated around the world with a Facebook fan base over four million, an official countdown website, merchandise releases and special screenings of all three movies in cinemas.
Fans, some dressed as Doc and Marty, waited until the precise time and cheered as a 1982 silver DeLorean sporting number plates '88mph', a tribute to the film that made the DeLorean famous, appeared through a cloud of smoke with 58-year-old car owner David Parody dressed as Doc behind the wheel.
Just like the 80’s iconic movie, the Perth Speed Fest will offer the chance to step back in time with a showcase of historic vehicles through the eras to today, including of course, this classic 1982 DeLorean.
"Like all DeLorean owners, I've been waiting years for this date," Mr Parody said.
"I'm never selling my DeLorean, it's such a unique car and mine is one of only a handful in the world that's right-hand-drive, so it's really rare.
"I'm a car lover and have a few other classic cars in my shed in Gnangara, but nothing stops people on the street like the DeLorean, it's a real thrill to drive - an iconic car matched to an iconic movie - and yes, I am a fan of Back to the Future," the Aviation Fire Fighter said.
Mr Parody's DeLorean will be on display in the Gary Miocevich Rare and Dangerous Pavilion at Perth Speed Fest, held on Sunday 13 December at Perth Motorplex. Read more...
