- Shelter’s ‘Root Stout slides down like velvet with savoury, smoky malt tones and slight hint of beetroot sweetness
- ‘Root Stout is available from Shelter on Friday 14 April and from select bars and WA bottle shops from 17 April
‘Root Stout, Shelter Brewing Co’s first limited release beer of the year, is available at the brewery from today and in WA bottle shops from mid-April.
Velvety and refreshing, the 'Root Stout keeps the same savoury, smoked malt tones as Shelter’s previous stouts, but the addition of beetroot adds the slightest hint of sweetness.
Jason Credaro, head brewer at Shelter Brewing Co, said the beetroot almost didn’t make it into the ‘Root Stout.
“I ordered 50 kilos of beetroot to put in the brew, and when it arrived, the kitchen team got hold of it and prepped it for meals in the restaurant. They complained to the Head Chef for ordering so much beetroot, and I had to find 50 kilos of beets at short notice,” Credaro said.
“Luckily we have great suppliers, so we were able to order some more.
“The ‘Root Stout is not too heavy and has a great body built on the epic grain bill.
“We’ve made the ‘Root Stout for autumn, to slide down smoothly while the sun is still a little warm.
“If you were a fan of the Campfire and Bonfire Stouts, you'll be into this as well,” Credaro said.
The ‘Root Stout is available in 375ml cans, four-packs, cubes and available from Shelter from Friday 14 April and in select bars and bottle shops from Monday 17 April.
