As Australia hosts the biggest sporting tournament of the year, the ICC Cricket World Cup, Perth is ready to stage a warm Western Australian welcome for the West Indies cricket team.
Tourism Western Australia Events Executive Director Gwyn Dolphin said the West Indies team would be stationed in Perth for one week.
“This is the best opportunity to see the West Indies cricket team before they take on India at the WACA on the 6th March,” Mr Dolphin said.
The West Indies Welcome will take place on Sunday 1st March from 5pm to 10pm in the James Street Amphitheatre at the Perth Cultural Centre.
The West Indies welcome party will feature Caribbean music including the Perth Pandemix Steel Orchestra, DJ Osric, Crucial Rockers featuring Grace Barbé, and young Jamaican Tahj Reid who’ll sing the West Indies Cricket Anthem. A pop up bar serving drinks and great Caribbean food will be available for purchase.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 in association with Host City Perth will be giving away tickets to the India v West Indies match. To win come dressed in the Caribbean theme and the two best dressed will win a double pass!
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 started in Melbourne on 14 February with 14 national teams in 14 host cities participating. Perth plays host to Australia, India, United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan and the West Indies.
Perth will host three games at the WACA:
o India v United Arab Emirates, Saturday 28 February 2015 (D/N)
o Australia v Afghanistan, Wednesday 4 March 2015 (D/N)
o India v West Indies, Friday 6 March 2015 (D/N)
The cricket action doesn’t stop there. Cricket fans will be able to get involved in various events across town. Fans have a choice of two live sites in the heart of the city where they can pull up a beanbag and watch selected games live on the big screen. There’s also a fantastic cricket exhibition at the WA Museum titled One Day from Glory: Cricket’s World Cup and a chance for fans to test their bowling skills and speed in the net set up in the Perth Cultural Centre.
